‘CinemaBandi’ the Movie on Netflix has been a huge success, a Class movie that the audience has loved and cherished. ClubbyTalks got the opportunity to talk to the Lead Actor of the Movie – Vikas Vashishta.
A Voice Over Artist who has dubbed for Superstars like Kiccha Sudeep, Allu Arjun, Prabhas, and Mahesh Babu for Kannada versions and a splendid acting career in a variety of Kannada Tele serials, Vikas Vashista’s is an inspiring journey in the south Indian cinema Industry.
From his love for Malayalam Cinema, Lalettan to his advice for aspiring Actors, here is the conversation the humble Star had with Sushma Shaji.
First Off, How are you feeling right now, with all the success coming your way?
“ I am really happy, it is an overwhelming response, I never expected it. I am getting messages from across the states. This did not come easily, it is a great feeling. “
Did you expect this sort of response?
“ No, we did not expect the movie to do so well. We knew that we have made a good movie, like any other movie. but this response was unexpected. “
Do you think the movie would have got the same reception if it was released in Theatres?
“ Probably Yes. See this is not just a class movie, this is supposed to reach the rural masses, and it would have had a good response in theaters, but unfortunately, we had to respect the current situation. “
How did you get the role for CinemaBandi? Did you audition?
“ I know Praveen( Director ) since 2014, we made an Ad film together. Though we were not in touch regularly, he messaged me out of the blue one day and asked me if I could help him find a Telugu actor from Bengaluru.
He did not know that I speak Telugu. So I asked him to give me a couple of days and eventually, I ended up informing him that, I am a Telugu speaking actor myself and it seems he has forgotten. He immediately called and we met, he narrated the story to me and rest is history. “
This is Praveen’s debut Movie and your debut in Tollywood. How was your overall experience?
“ This being Praveen’s debut movie and my Telugu debut, our wavelengths matched to the fact that we wanted this to be big. In terms of experience, see this was a small unit, I would rather put it this way – we went for a picnic, we enjoyed it and we came back. “
“ However, on the technical aspect of things, there were a lot of challenges that were already expected and we dealt with them accordingly. “
You are not just a prolific actor but a successful voice-over artist too, could you please tell us how is the Voice industry doing.
“ It’s doing very well. From the year 2019, I would say, there are a lot of opportunities in the voice-over industry. Many professional actors are taking this up, as you know that. for untold reasons, a lot of talented actors are not getting opportunities in the cinema industry. “
“ I dubbed for Kichha Sudeep’s ‘eega’ in Kannada, before that Kannada versions of Allu Arjun’s ‘Sarrainodu’, Prabhas for ‘pournami’ and ‘varsham’ and, Mahesh Babu’s ‘Okkadu’. “
Do you follow Malayalam Cinema and who is your favorite Malayalam Actor?
“ Of course, I follow Malayalam Cinema. Favorites, I have many, Mr. Lal ( Mohan Lal), Prithviraj and there’s this name that I always bring during the discussion with other Artists and friends – ‘Anthony Varghese’. I think he is brilliant and he is coming up like a phoenix from nowhere. I like the raw and rustic performances in Jallikattu, Angamaly Diaries. “
If you get a chance to act in a Malayalam cinema would you be interested?
“ Yes, Definitely. I believe that art has no boundaries, your art should break boundaries. However, my only concern is that I should be able to think in Malayalam to perform. Your language plays a major role, to convey your emotions and deliver them with that impact. “
What would your preference be: a lead role, a character role, or a Villain?
“ Well, that’s a tough question to answer, at the beginning of my career, I was looking for lead roles in Kannada serial and then I figured I shouldn’t do lead roles, as I am more interested in doing movies, and, if I start doing lead roles, I will not be able to do more movies. “
“ And secondly, I think you don’t need to play a lead role to be a Hero in the movie, you can play wonderful characters as long as the character you are playing demands you. It is not that, just the Director of the movie wants you to play the character, it is also the fact that the character wants an actor called Vikas to play it. If you understand what I am saying. “
“ So, to answer your question, I am ready to play any interesting characters preferably as Hero now. “
How did you come into the Industry? Was it your dream to become an Actor?
“ I wouldn’t say it was a dream, I am a Movie Buff, I have been so from my childhood. But, like all typical middle-class kids, I too had to follow a defined plan of getting a degree and working for a career, and so on. “
“ The acting was always a passion, there was a trend of software professionals heading towards films apparently but not for me. I started doing one-day characters in Serials for almost 2 years and I had a revelation that this is what I need to do, If I wanted to make it big then this is it. “
What are your upcoming projects? Is there any movie from the Tollywood industry?
“ Yes. There are a couple of Movie talks in Telugu as we speak and there are few web series offers from Tamil as well and a few from Kannada. “
With the OTT’s around, it is said that ‘Content is the King now’. Would you agree that the Stars of today’s generation will not be worshipped like the stars before them?
“ Any day for that matter, content is the king. It has always been so, even a big-budget movie with a superstar in it will need to have content, so the content will always be the king.
Worshipping the stars, I think it will always be there, it is there to stay, that is the impact Cinema brings to the masses. “
We are a platform supporting aspiring Artists, what would your advice be to an aspiring actor who wants to make it to the Industry?
“ For an aspiring actor, see he/she should be dedicated, it is not a cakewalk, it may take years to reach a good position, it can get frustrating, professionally and, financially. “
“ When someone tells me that I want to get into movies, I want to become an Actor, I ask them why do you want to get into this? It is not easy here because I have seen the journey, the struggle and, we lose so much here. “
“ But the only thing is you have to stand strong and stick to your thought process. You have to have that desire, you have to know it takes time, it is not an overnight process. And, please get into this if you are interested genuinely. Do not come here for the sake of trial and error, CZ you might be taking away someone else’s opportunity, someone who is passionate about acting and has sacrificed a lot. “
It was an endearing Interview for the whole team of ClubbyTalks and perhaps, an inspiring one for aspiring Artists across the country, as there is so much to learn from this humble and Inspiring Actor.
