They describe themselves as a band that makes ‘smile-worthy’ and ‘happy’ songs. And, indeed it’s true! ‘When Chai Met Toast’ makes music that puts a smile on the listeners’ face. It’s truly ‘heart-warming’ for people from all walks of life. This four-member Indian music band consists of Palee Francis on the keyboard, Achyuth Jaigopal who plays the guitar as well as the banjo, Pai Sailesh on the drums and the vocalist, Ashwin Gopakumar.
‘When Chai Met Toast’ was formed in 2014 when Achyuth and Ashwin met at a music cafe in Fort Kochi. Soon, the others joined making it a four-member band.
The Indian music band’s name ‘When Chai Met toast’ suggests the Indian and western influences on their songs.
In fact, they have released 9 original singles already.
They say that their music-making process happens quite spontaneously. Sometimes, they might be in different cities when a song comes in. But, they take time to share the lyrics by WhatsApp and come together to set the tune. Also, this Indian music band has performed in many live venues in cities like Chennai, Bangalore, Trivandrum, and Kochi.
